“If you are the major COG of your business then you are the major CLOG of your business”
In the life of the small business owner there will ALWAYS be times when you are the major COG. Heck, there will be times when you are the ONLY cog in your business! But, as you grow you must reach out and learn to work through others. This could mean outsourcing what you do but it will always mean working THROUGH (and not against) your staff. THEY are the key to your future success – don’t forget it!
How do you stop being the major COG?
Step 1: Grow your business. Sounds simple but it’s very difficult and we teach you many ways to do this at our site
Step 2: Hire great workers. Hire people that are energetic, smart and have a great attitude. And, the attitude part is virtually impossible to train because they either “have it” or they don’t. THEY decide if they come to work every day with a great attitude. YOU decide if you are going to keep them or not. Bottom line, don’t keep bad attitudes . . . they are a cancer to your organization
Step 3: Train these workers to do their jobs. Again, sounds simple but we often take the approach of “I can do it in 10 minutes or take 30 minutes to train the new worker . . . so I’ll just do it myself.” That is the PERFECT example of CLOG thinking. Don’t fall into that trap!
Step 4: GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!!! Assuming the above three occurred then it’s now up to you as the great and powerful leader to GET OUT OF THE WAY and let people do their job. The ball is in your court!
